Industrial Lamp

One of our earlier designs, the Industrial Lamp, is still a popular lamp today. These lamps are tall and have a lot of character.

I wanted to showcase these lamps on the blog today because I'm really feeling them for fall. The bases are made of salvaged wood. The arm is made of polished nickel. They are the perfect balance between rustic and modern.

Inspiration

The lamps that make up our shop were inspired by one of the first modern functioning light bulbs. Thomas Edison's hand blown glass light bulbs were experimented with thousands and thousands of times before they found a slow burning filament similar to the one we use today. In 1879 Thomas Edison demonstrated the light bulb that burned for an hour or so in public. His focus was probably on the technology of the thing, but the displays were a thing of beauty!

These early light bulbs and their utilitarian pedestals are what inspired our Pedestal Lamps.

From here, we added lantern-like features and created the hurricane pedestal lamp. Stemming from the same inspiration, new Worley's Lighting lamps were created and we now offer quite a few different designs in our shop!

Day at the Horse Farm

Yesterday we had the opportunity to go to a family friends horse ranch and shoot some photos of our new Signature Collection. It was so beautiful. The old barns, which were updated inside, still had old charming wood and hardware. The land was really green and lush since we've been getting so much rain this summer. The horses were big and scary-- i mean lovely =). They also have a charming farm house where they live with a wood burning heating system and old barn wood stairs. When we return, we will get pictures inside their lovely home. Here are some of the shots from yesterday that I wanted to share with you all.

 A beautiful day in all!

The Signature Collection is Here!

My last post was a slice of the process that we go through to make some of the lamps in our new Signature Collection. Well here is our final product, we are so excited to introduce:

Our Signature Collection Hurricane Pedestal Lamps-

These lamps are big! 7-7.5" in width and about 13-14" in height. They are great pieces to have in your home. One of my favorite things about them, besides the construction, is the glow the bulbs give off. These lamps, like the rest of our lamps, all give off candle light-like glow. They don't light up an entire room, but really warm up a nook of a home. Candle light is prettier than bright lamp light =)

Signature Collection Book Ends:

Our bookend/lamp combo is really unique and beautiful. A lot of time and effort go into making these.

The Process

In one of my previous posts, I spoke of new luxury lamps, made of beautiful hardwoods, that we would be introducing soon. Well soon is almost here! I spent a lot of time today getting the main components ready to turn into lamps. The process of making them is pretty cool and I wanted to share. I also wanted to share because a lot of heart and soul go into making these lamps and it's not always easy to see how much work goes into something handmade when you are only looking at the final product. The finished product will be a large, 7"x14" hurricane pedestal lamp, which will be really beautifully made with high quality hardwoods. Here are some photos of me making some of our first round bases (please excuse the low quality iphone pictures!).

Here are the large blocks we glue up and start with: Top Walnut, middle salvaged Oak and bottom Sapele.

We turn them on the Lathe:

 And finish with this:

The final product will be revealed really soon. I hope I have peaked your interest! I am really excited about these lamps and can't wait to introduce them to you!

Not Just A Lamp

At Worley's Lighting we love lamps yes, but we really love when a lamp can serve another purpose. Like a lamp that is also a set of bookends.

Or a lamp that can remind you things...

Lamps can serve more than one purpose! We are excited to introduce new multifunction lamps in the near future. Stay tuned.

If your lamp could do one thing other than provide light, what would it do?

Back from the Beach!

We returned from vacation today. We had the best time! My parents, sister and grandparents were down with us all week. Seth and I took Opie to the beach for the first time and he had a blast. I wanted to share some of the pictures.

Now it's time to get back into the swing of things. We are in for a great year at Worley's Lighting, a lot of new things happening. I will be sure to keep our followers posted. Look out for our new lamp lines toward the end of the summer!
